Protect Your Mattress From Spills, Dust, and Everyday Wear
A mattress protector won’t soften a hard bed or relieve pressure on sore hips and shoulders, but a well-fitted encasement can help keep the sleep surface underneath clean. If spills, sweat, pet messes, or dust are your concern, the best full zip mattress cover should wrap around all six sides and close securely without changing the feel of your mattress more than necessary.
This roundup compares three full-size zippered protectors using their listed materials, fit details, closure designs, and care instructions. The options range from a basic six-sided cover to waterproof models with specific depth limits and a cotton terry top. Check your mattress measurements before buying: full-size dimensions alone don’t confirm that an encasement will fit a thicker mattress. For other sleep-surface comfort ideas, see these pressure-relief mattress topper features.
The Utopia Bedding Full Size Mattress Protector specifies a fit for mattresses up to 13 inches deep, a waterproof barrier, and machine washing with low-heat tumble drying. The SureGuard Full (13-16" Deep) is the clearest fit for a deeper mattress, with a listed 13-to-16-inch range, a cotton terry top, and a zippered six-sided design. Full Size Mattress Protector Bedbug Waterproof highlights a full encasement and Velcro zipper seal, but its supplied details don’t state a mattress-depth limit. These are protective covers, not foam overlays, so don’t expect them to correct sagging, add cushioning, or improve spinal alignment.

FAQs
Does a zippered mattress protector cover all sides?
Yes, all three listed options are described as encasements or six-sided protectors. A zippered cover surrounds the mattress, unlike a fitted pad that covers only the top and sides. Check the closure details and mattress-depth range before ordering.
Which full mattress encasement fits a mattress 14 inches deep?
The SureGuard Full (13-16" Deep) lists a fit for mattresses 13 to 16 inches deep. Utopia Bedding specifies a maximum depth of 13 inches, while the supplied Four Seasons Essentials details don’t provide a depth limit. Measure your mattress, including any existing pad, before purchase.
Can a waterproof encasement make a mattress cooler?
No cooling performance is specified for these products. SureGuard lists a cotton terry top that wicks moisture, while Utopia describes a smooth knitted polyester surface and a non-crinkling design. Neither description identifies gel, cooling foam, or a temperature-regulating cover.
Can I machine-wash a zippered mattress cover?
Yes, the Utopia and SureGuard product details specify machine washing. Utopia also lists tumble drying on low heat, and SureGuard says machine wash and dry. Follow the care label for the specific cover you buy, since care directions aren’t provided for the Four Seasons Essentials option here.
Will a mattress encasement fix a sagging or uncomfortable bed?
No, an encasement protects the mattress rather than adding support or cushioning. A foam mattress topper may change surface comfort, but a cover alone won’t correct deep sagging or improve alignment. For a topper that shifts on the bed, see these mattress topper fit and sliding tips.
