Extra cushioning can soften a firm king bed, but the right pad also needs to stay put and suit your sleep temperature.
A mattress that feels too hard can leave hips and shoulders under pressure, while an overly plush surface may let your midsection sink too far. The best plush mattress pad king depends on how much cushioning you want, whether you sleep warm, and how securely the pad fits your mattress. This roundup includes pillow-top fills and a layered option with gel memory foam, so you can compare a soft surface feel with more contouring support.
Product descriptions provide the basis for this comparison, including stated thickness, fill, fabric, fit range, and care instructions. The BDEUS option combines two inches of gel memory foam with a three-inch quilted down-alternative cover, while the other picks focus on padded fill rather than a foam core. That distinction matters: down-alternative pads add a cushioned layer, but they are not a fix for a badly sagging mattress. For more context on keeping a mattress topper from shifting, check the fit and securing features before buying. You can also compare ideas for pressure-relieving mattress toppers if shoulder or hip comfort is your main concern.
Check your mattress depth before ordering. Several options list pockets that stretch to 21 inches, but fitted sheets may need extra depth once a thick pad is added. The BDEUS foam needs 24 to 48 hours to expand, and its maker recommends hand washing the heavily filled king cover. ELEMUSE is machine washable according to its care directions, while EASELAND specifies a gentle wash and a low-heat or sun-drying step to restore fluff. Use these details to weigh plush comfort, temperature preference, secure fit, and upkeep against your actual bed setup.

- Retains less heat than dense memory foam
- Box quilting prevents fiberfill from shifting around
- Soft microfiber cover is gentle on sensitive skin
Cons
- Requires a large-capacity machine for laundering

FAQs
Is a five-inch topper too thick for a king mattress?
It depends on your preferred feel and sheet depth. The BDEUS Dual Layer 5 Inch Memory Foam Mattress pairs two inches of gel memory foam with a three-inch padded cover, adding substantial height and cushioning. Check that your fitted sheets can accommodate the combined mattress and topper depth.
Which plush king pad may suit a hot sleeper?
The ELEMUSE King Mattress Topper uses down-alternative fill, which its product description says retains less body heat than memory foam. BDEUS offers a gel memory foam layer that can be used on its own in warmer seasons, according to the manufacturer. Neither feature guarantees a cool sleep surface for every person.
Can a plush mattress pad fix a sagging mattress?
No, a pad can add surface cushioning but cannot repair a sagging or damaged mattress. A thick fill may soften the feel, yet it won’t restore missing support beneath your body. If the mattress has a deep dip, replacing it may be more appropriate than adding a pillow top.
How can I keep a king mattress pad from sliding?
Choose a fitted design with a deep elastic pocket sized for your mattress depth. BDEUS and ELEMUSE list pockets that fit mattresses up to 21 inches deep, and EASELAND also lists a 21-inch pocket. For further fit tips, see this guide to mattress toppers for stable back support.
Are these plush king mattress pads machine washable?
Care instructions vary by product. ELEMUSE and Beckham state that their pads are machine washable, while EASELAND recommends a gentle cycle. BDEUS recommends hand washing its heavily filled king cover because machine washing may damage the fabric.
